City police are searching for a suspect involved in a late-night break-in and theft last night at a Bayfield Street store.

The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17 in Barrie's north end.

From the ensuing investigation, officers learned an unknown man had initially entered the store, made a purchase and returned a short time later, Barrie police communications coordinator Peter Leon said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

“When he did return, he walked over to a glass display case, smashed it open and stole a large quantity of video games valued at almost $4,000,” he added.

Police said they are trying to obtain video surveillance of the theft.

The suspect is described as a black male, standing six-foot-five and weighing 150 pounds. He was wearing grey track pants, a black jacket, a black surgical-style mask and black gloves.

“He was carrying a black bag that he put the stolen video games in and wore a black backpack on his back,” said Leon.

Police say a canine unit was brought in to conduct a track, but concluded without an arrest near the area of Kozlov Street, just north of Pearcey Crescent.

Police are asking if anyone has information on the identity of the suspect to call 705-725-7025, ext. 2795.
