Innisfil man faces 23 charges in theft investigation

Investigation began in early December after U-Haul was reported stolen in Owen Sound

INNISFIL - The South Simcoe Police Service has laid 23 charges against an Innisfil man following multiple thefts that began in early December.

On Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, a U-Haul truck was stolen from the lot of an auto shop in Owen Sound. The male suspect then broke into two other vehicles and stole multiple power tools. The following day, the stolen U-Haul was located in a parking lot on Innisfil Beach Road near 20th Sideroad in the Town of Innisfil. Police were subsequently contacted about the U-Haul and began an investigation which led to the identification of a suspect.

On Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, an officer on general patrol located a second stolen U-Haul parked in the area of 20th Sideroad and Innisfil Beach Road. The investigation revealed that the U-Haul had been stolen from an address in the area of Yonge Street and 10th Line in Innisfil.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, as a result of the investigation, the Street Crime Unit arrested and charged a 52-year-old man from Innisfil with 23 offences, including motor vehicle theft, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief, and operation while prohibited by Order Under the Criminal Code.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
