Loaded guns, suspected drugs seized after traffic stop in Vaughan

A 33-year-old man faces 21 offences, including including impaired operation, possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution, multiple firearms offences

Three people have been arrested and two loaded firearms, suspected drugs and cash were seized after a traffic stop in Vaughan last Friday.

Officers on patrol in the area of Steeles Avenue West and Pearce Road observed a white GMC truck leaving a parking lot in an erratic manner, nearly hitting vehicles on the road, on Friday, June 16 at approximately 11:15 p.m., according to a York Regional Police news release.

Officers stopped the vehicle near Pine Valley Drive and Highway 407 and arrested the male driver. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of an amount of cannabis consistent with distribution, and open alcohol, police said.

A further search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of two handguns with ammunition and a large amount of cash, police said.

A male and female passenger were then also arrested, police added.

Following the execution of search warrants at residences in Toronto and Brampton, approximately one kilogram of cannabis resin was seized, police said.

Tyler Burke, 32, of Bolton, has been charged with 21 offences, including impaired operation, possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and fail to comply with court order, along with additional firearm-related offences, police said.

Leon Burke, 33, of no fixed address and Caitlin Cummings, 26, of Toronto, are charged with a combined 28 offences, including possession of cannabis for the purpose of distribution, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, along with other firearm-related offences, police said.
