Markham man faces assault charge after incident in Vaughan on Saturday afternoon

Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have located the victim and charged a 24-year-old man after reports of a possible abduction in the City of Vaughan.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, at approximately 2:50 p.m., York Regional Police responded to the area of Barhill Road and Rutherford Road after several reports came in that a male suspect grabbed a female victim by the hair and threw her into a vehicle described as being a grey or silver Audi SUV.

Investigators located the vehicle along with the victim and the suspect at a residence in the City of Markham. The victim had minor injuries and the suspect was arrested for assault.

This was not a random incident and the victim and the suspect are known to each other.

Giancarlo Falquez-Merchan, 24, of Markham, has been charged with assault and breach of court order.

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Sunday, Nov. 3.
