A Molotov cocktail caused a small fire when it was tossed into a Vaughan property management company Tuesday, according to York Regional Police.

The improvised explosive device was thrown into the reception area of the business on Millway Avenue May 9 at 12:30 a.m., police said in a news release.

Officers found the front glass window had been shattered and saw smoke inside the unit when they responded to the call for a break-in at the property.

When police and fire personnel entered the building, they discovered the device commonly known as a Molotov cocktail, which had not exploded but did burn, causing a small fire.

The business owner was at the property at the time, and no one was physically harmed, police said.

The incident appears to be targeted at the one unit. There is no suspect information and the motive is unknown at this time.

Police are anyone with security video or dashcam recordings from the area around the time of the incident to contact investigators at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7441, or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online.
