Pickup, dumpster truck collision results in careless driving charge for Barrie man

INNISFIL - A 32-year-old Barrie man was charged with failing to stop at a red light following a two-vehicle collision in Innisfil.

On Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, around 10:30 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers responded to a collision involving a pickup truck and a dump truck on the 10th Sideroad and Highway 89.  

Investigation revealed a northbound pickup truck proceeded through the intersection where it was struck by an eastbound dump truck. The pickup truck wound up in the ditch.  

The driver and a passenger in the pickup truck were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the dump truck was not hurt. As a result of investigation, a 32-year-old Barrie man who was driving the pickup truck was charged with red light fail to stop.

Stop signs and traffic lights are in place to ensure the safety of all community members. These two occurrences highlight the dangers of not respecting these critical traffic safety measures.  

Fortunately, there were no serious injuries. A conviction for a charge of careless driving carries a fine of up to $2,000. The fine for failing to stop at a stop sign is $110.
