Police believe driver stopped after fatal hit and run near Newmarket

The 70-year-old victim had been reported missing after going for a walk the night before

The driver of a green Toyota Corolla is being sought in relation to the suspected hit-and-run collision that killed a man on Davis Drive in East Gwillimbury, just east of Newmarket, yesterday. 

The 70-year-old man who was found deceased at the scene when police responded to a missing person report yesterday, Sept. 28, at about 10:15 a.m. after he did not return to his home near Davis and Kennedy Road, which he had left to go for a walk on Sept. 27 at about 9 p.m., York Regional Police said. 

Officers located the man deceased on Davis, between Bales Drive and Warden Avenue, shortly after noon. He appeared to have been struck by a car, police said. 

Investigators are now seeking the driver of a vehicle that may have struck the man. In particular, a man wearing reflective clothing who was driving a green Toyota Corolla that police believe stopped in the immediate area of the collision is being sought. 

Investigators are also appealing for any witnesses in the area between 9 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 10 a.m. on Sept. 28 to come forward. They are also seeking dashcam or security camera footage from the area at that time.
