Suspect steals vehicle at gas station, crashes it in nearby lot

Incident occurred in Bradford early Sunday morning; Newmarket man, 27, charged with vehicle theft and dangerous operation

On Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023 at approximately 3:15 a.m., the South Simcoe Police Service responded to a report of a theft of a vehicle in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

A man reported he was filling up at a gas station in the area of Bridge Street and Holland Street when an unknown male suspect entered the vehicle. The suspect drove off at a high rate of speed and collided with a parked vehicle in a neighbouring parking lot before fleeing on foot. Police located the suspect at a residence and placed him under arrest. He was subsequently treated in hospital for minor injuries.

As a result of an investigation, 27-year-old Cody Herriman of Newmarket was charged with motor vehicle theft and dangerous operation. The accused was released with a future court date.
