Barrie police are crediting a keen-eyed citizen who reported two people acting in a "suspicious manner" in the city's east end, Thursday morning, which led to the seizure of cocaine and fentanyl.

At 11:30 a.m., Aug. 3, police were alerted to two suspicious males in the area of Shannon Street and Marion Crescent, near Grove and Duckworth streets.

"A concerned citizen called police after the males, who were wearing hooded-style sweatshirts, were seen looking into vehicles parked in driveways," police stated in a news release Friday morning.

A few minutes later, police say responding officers located the two males and commenced an investigation.

Police say a 19-year-old Toronto man provided officers a false name and was arrested for obstructing police. While being taken into custody, police say cocaine was found.

Based upon property located on the first male suspect, police believe the two were in the area to possibly carry out a break-and-enter.

Police say the second male suspect, a 22-year-old Toronto man, was in possession of fentanyl and a concealed weapon.

Both men were transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued.

"At this time, the second male was also found to be in possession of suspected cocaine that was packaged for sale. These drugs were located concealed beneath clothing he was wearing," according to police.

Both men are facing drug-related charges. The 22-year-old man also faces a weapons charge, while the younger man was charged with obstructing police and failure to comply with an undertaking.

The two men have been held in custody and are scheduled to appear by video for a bail hearing later today.

"Barrie police wish to acknowledge and thank the concerned citizen who contacted police to report these two suspicious males," the release stated. "The observations made may have prevented a break-and-enter or theft from an unlocked motor vehicle from occurring."
