INNISFIL - A tow truck operator and a driver have been charged in connection with a collision that was not reported to police.

On Tuesday, May 29, 2018 around 8 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to Georgian Downs in Innisfil for a suspicious vehicle parked in the north side of the lot.

When officers arrived, they saw a considerable amount of damage to the right side of the vehicle.

Security officers told police that they viewed security video of the vehicle being towed in the lot around 2:30 a.m. The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old Toronto man, was seen sleeping in the car for about two hours before entering the casino.

Officers approached the driver inside the casino. He initially claimed someone else was driving the vehicle when it hit the guardrail while travelling northbound on the Highway 400 at County Road 88.

However, after speaking with the tow driver in front of the man, it was confirmed there was only one person in the vehicle, the man changed his story.

Police went to the area where the collision occurred and saw debris and damage to the guardrail consistent with damage on the vehicle.

The driver was given several tickets: G1 licence unaccompanied by qualified driver; drive motor vehicle without ignition interlock device; fail to report damage to property on a highway; fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle.

The tow truck operator will be charged for failing to report the collision as required.
