A 2020 black Chevy Suburban truck has been stolen from a driveway on Chelsea Crescent in Bradford.
At around 2:30 a.m.Friday, March 18, Waleed Warraich said he heard his truck starting up in the driveway, but didn't think anything of it. His brother, who he lives with, will often take the vehicle around that time to go to work and assumed it was him.
"I was also half asleep," he told BradfordToday.
At 6 a.m., his brother arrived home from work in one of the other family's vehicles and noticed the truck missing from the driveway.
"My brother called to see if I was out somewhere, but I told him that I was sleeping," said Warraich.
His brother asked where the truck was, letting him know it wasn't in the driveway.
That's when they realized it had been stolen and called the police right away. Police let them know there has been an uptick in vehicle thefts in South Simcoe over the past few months.
Warraich has a security camera, as does his neighbour, but unfortunately due to the cold weather, they have been jammed up and were unable to capture any footage of the thieves in action.
"It's awful," said Warraich. "I got the truck brand new from the Chevrolet Brampton dealership last year for $110,000."
The investigation is ongoing. Police are appealing for witnesses and security/dashcam footage. Residents in the area are being asked to check their security cameras for footage as well. Anyone with information that may assist in the case is asked to contact the police.
