Two people, dog narrowly escape Alliston blaze

Duo jumped to a nearby roof, where they were rescued by firefighters; Ontario Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire

Two people managed to escape a structure fire Monday evening in Alliston.

Nottawasaga OPP, along with New Tecumseth firefighters and Simcoe County paramedics, responded to a report of a fire on Victoria Street at about 7:40 p.m.

Two occupants from an apartment escaped through a window and jumped to a nearby roof with a dog. They were then rescued by firefighters, police stated in a news release.

The two were taken to hospital as a precaution and released a few hours later.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted and will be at the scene today (April 12) to investigate.

The extent and cost of damage is not yet known.

Police are remaining on scene while the investigation continues.
