March: Make a kit

Is your family ready to look after all of your basic needs for the first 72 hours after an emergency? If you’re not certain (or are certain that you’re not) then please read on.

In an emergency, there may be no heat, electricity or even running water, and first responders may be too busy responding helping people who are injured or in danger. You need to be prepared to look after your entire family (including pets) by stocking enough food, water and other necessities, and storing it so that it’s easily accessed or carried with you in an evacuation.

All Canadians are asked to be prepared to look after their own family during the first 72 hours of an emergency unless in immediate need of medical aid or other urgent assistance. WHERE DO I GET INFORMATION DURING AN EMERGENCY?

During emergencies, the Town of BWG posts information on Facebook, and shares it with local media including radio stations Rock 95 and 107.5 Kool FM. During a serious emergency in which extra support services are required (such as evacuation centres or water stations), the Town partners with the 2-1-1 telephone information service to answer calls.

At ANY time, residents can dial 2-1-1 to speak to a real person who can provide advice on community services available to you.
