WHEREAS: The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury’s Fire and Emergency Services is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our Town; and
WHEREAS: Fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally, and homes are where people are at greatest risk from fire; and
WHEREAS: Cooking is the leading cause of home fires, with nearly (49 percent) of all home fires involving cooking equipment; and
WHEREAS: Fire Prevention Week is observed each year during the week of October 9th in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871, and caused devastating damage, killing more than 250 people, leaving 100,000 homeless, and burning more than 2,000 acres of land; and
WHEREAS: This year’s campaign theme is Cooking safety starts with YOU™ to educate everyone about simple but important actions people can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim August 31, 2023, as Overdose Awareness Day in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
