Writing is an art that anyone can do with a keyboard and a little time. That’s why the Teen Advisory Group (TAG) from Bradford Public Library wants teens to write – and win prizes – in the month of February!

The contest is for teens – aged 13-19 – who live and attend school in Bradford. They can submit either a poem (20-50 lines) or a short story (400-500 words), following only one important rule: the topic must be on the theme of injustice. TAG chose this theme as they were inspired by Black History Month. As a TAG member mentioned, "February is an important time to reflect on the injustices faced by the African American communities in North America.”

The contest will also have an interesting judging panel, as the TAG group themselves will be the judges of the teen-submitted works. The contest starts February 1 and closes on February 28, 2022 at 11:59 PM EST, and four winners will be announced within two months of the contest’s closing.

In addition to gaining pure satisfaction from writing stories and poetry, teens will have a chance to win a gift card and to have their story displayed in the library’s teen newsletter. TAG looks forward to seeing what BWG’s teens can write!

Starting February 1, check the Library’s website for a form to submit work to be judged.
